Prince George's County Public Schools

Maryland

Client: Stantec

Completion Date: Ongoing

Facing a large construction backlog and an aging school inventory, Prince Georges County entered a first-of-its kind $1.2B public-private-partnership (P3) in the fall of 2020 that allowed six new public schools to be built in a much quicker timeframe than was available using a traditional public funding model. The six schools will house approximately 8,000 students in a variety of traditional and specialized classrooms and specialty areas. The project required a very quick mobilization of design services to meet the fall 2023 school openings The design of all six schools was inclusive of both the communities needs and educational requirements.

Polysonics designed the AV, IT, Theater and Security systems along with the Interior LEED V4 Acoustics systems for all six schools, coordinating multiple drawings sets and needs of individual schools within the overall scope of the project. Design was within the requirements for the county educational specifications, along with implementing ADA requirements into the appropriate systems. Specialty spaces included Theaters, a Black Box theater, Cafetoriums, Gymnasiums, Music Rehearsal rooms, Media Centers, Specialty classrooms and meeting spaces. Clock/Bell/Paging systems were designed for each school, along with DAS and WiFi systems. Security systems included the necessary
intrusion detection, glass break, camera systems and access control.
